Loved the class and loved the professor! Professor Paoletti is one of my favorites I have had so far at UVA. The course itself is interesting. I felt as though I learned a lot about the history African Art as a whole, as well as how we can talk about in a modern context. I missed 6 classes due to some mental health issues, which was of course in violation of the syllabus. I met with her outside of class and she was incredibly understanding. She agreed to not take off any part of my grade if I continued to attend classes and wrote a supplementary paper at the end of the semester, which I thought was super generous of her. She is one of those professors who truly takes interest in the students she teaches, and is approachable, kind, and knowledgable about what she teaches. On top of that, I had my favorite TA of all time: Jimga. He is featured in a lot of reviews on here for a reason. He was an outstanding facilitator of discussions, was extremely qualified as a TA, and displayed a vast array of knowledge on the course material without sounding arrogant in any sense. I would recommend this class to anyone regardless of your major or prior experience in Art History or African Culture.
