Easily the best class I've taken at U.Va. Professor Leffler knows his stuff in and out, guides you through the selected periods of American strategy formulation from WWII and on, and leaves you every seminar with a stark impression of the demands that policymakers face and the accomplishments that they've been able to extract from one of the most highly pressurized jobs in the world: defining, guiding, and reacting in real-time to the pursuit of the national interest, and the conflicts that entails. I highly recommend this course if you want to get a deep understanding of the how we got to where we are today.

If you have any interest in modern history or foreign affairs then I can't recommend this seminar highly enough! Professor Leffler is lovely and an expert in his field (the 'special guests' he brings in at the end of the semester are amazing); you'll feel lucky to have been able to experience this class by the end of the semester :)
