Great class if you're interested in the Civil Rights Movement! The professor is okay, a little dry at times but has AMAZING personal experiences in the Movement and if you get her talking about it, it's really interesting. There is a ton of reading assigned for each class but I've never read a line - she has us read stories of people's experiences so its definitely not necessary to do well in the class. There are 4 essays due in the semester, written about whatever you want and how you feel about it - so easy! However, participation, midterm, and final are a big percentage of the grade so don't screw those up!
DON'T BUY THE BOOKS! There is no need as the powerpoints will include all the info you are tested on (though she does NOT post the slides online, and will get offended if you ask). Easy, interesting class -- can be a bit monotone but as the other reviewer said, if you can get her to tell stories about her life, it becomes way more engaging. Try to get her to talk about the March on Washington (she was sixteen and attended even though her mother told her not to). I was lucky to have taken this class
