Very interesting material and although you may get tired of a long class, the text book is written from a different perspective. I ended up with a B after doing the majority of the readings and spending time but not much on the essays, you can take notes during class but Mr. Bond speaks very fast so it definitely gets hard.
Grade in this class is completely determined by your TA, so that's luck of the draw. Make sure you know how to compose an argument for the midterm papers and the final exam, which completely determine the grade. The reading material (esp. the reader itself) is FASCINATING, but the lectures are very dry; there are a few bright spots throughout the semester, but Bond is a notoriously painful lecturer. He is definitely interesting, as he has first-hand experience with all of the material. Take advantage of him being your professor and get to know him (he's a lot more intriguing outside of class), and talk to your TA frequently if you want to improve your grade.
Bond has written a phenomenal textbook and makes great use of media (Movies and Songs) but lectures are long and dry. This is really a class for those who want to engage in a serious historical study of the time period, and if this is your goal HIUS 367 is a must. However, if you expect frequent tangents and "story time," stay away.
bond is a great man, but in my opinion a pretty terrible lecturer. reads straight from the notes for two long hours. when he tells stories, they are good ones, but they are few and far between. i really enjoy the civil rights movement but this class could have been taught much better by someone who knew how to teach. on the plus side, its really not that hard.
