I actually took this Fall 2023, but if you have the choice, TAKE THIS CLASS. It's really easy, there's not a lot of homework, the readings are simple, though some can be long, and the professor is super nice and chill. I only had 3 major essays and I got feedback and even a tentative grade that tells me what I would get if I didn't change anything and just submitted the essay again. I've heard the other ENWRs are a lot more work, so def take this class.
I highly recommend this course to fulfill your first writing requirement. The workload each week is very light, and the classwork is fairly straight-forward. Professor Fountain is very sweet, and the atmosphere in class is very positive. Also, all your essay grades are tentative till the end of the semester meaning that if you don't do well on the essays the first time you submit them, you have an opportunity to apply comments and raise your grade at the end of the semester. This wasn't the most riveting class I've ever taken, but it fulfills a first-year requirement and is relatively easy. The only downside is that Professor Fountain is a slow grader, so just be weary of that.
I highly recommend taking this course - Professor Fountain is such a kind guy who you can tell is really invested in the material that he teaches. The class was relatively interesting. There are readings or videos to read/watch before class, but those didn't take much time to complete. We do lots of practice with writing through discussion boards and groupwork in class. There are 3 different essays to complete throughout the semester, which all seemed daunting at first but once you get going, aren't too hard to complete. Those are peer reviewed and turned in as rough drafts that Professor Fountain or the TA will give you a tentative grade for and tell you what to do so that you can get an A for the final draft (which is turned in at the end of the semester). I will say that it does take a while for the rough draft to be returned but considering that not all ENWR professors are willing to do tentative grades for their students, I didn't really mind this.
This class is deceivingly easy. It seems difficult as you take it, since you have to write three essays that are given a "grade," but you get to resubmit every essay with the comments they give your for a better grade anyway. The readings are extremely light, but definitely do them as they are good sources for papers. Prof Fountain is a great professor anyway, I recommend.
