I really liked this class. There are only two assignments for the whole semester, a 30 minute presentation on ANY topic of your choice (as long as it relates to precision medicine: I did mine on obesity and diabetes research) and then a 10 page final paper about your presentation topic. Prof Grainger is approachable and you will meet with him several times to discuss your project. Very attainable A with minimal workload over the semester, probably the easiest 4000 level bio elective out there and I still learned a ton about a subject that actually interested me.
LOVED this course - finally brought my understanding of biology/chemistry to life. His lectures were very interesting and then students present in the second 1/2 of the course. You work on 1 30-45 minute presentation and 15 page paper on a project of your choice. This class is meant for people who are confident public speaking and are passionate about biology - it is definitely different than other courses offered in the biology department. You have to put in all the work on your project and paper outside of class, but there are no exams. There are <20 people in the class- you get to know Prof Grainger well and he has such an interesting life and breadth of knowledge! HIGHLY recommend! We need more bio classes like this.
