Interesting class; I learned a lot I didnt know. work and Reading is pretty light and the half take home midterm and full take home final were not to bad (doing reading helps alot for these tho)

Barnett was pretty funny during lecture (which I recommend going to if you want an a), but I can say that of all the classes I've taken at UVa I learned the least amount from this one. Take it if you don't have anything better to do.

Prof. Barnett is a cool guy and always keeps class interesting but he is a rather hard grader. The course material is pretty boring and you need to go to class. Overall I would only take the class if you have a very strong interest in early Indian History.

Barnett is one of the coolest professors out there. He really wants his students to learn the material rather than stress about grades, so the midterm and final are open-book, open-note, and take-home and lets you choose if you want to do a couple projects for some extra weight on your grade. The lectures can get a bit boring at times but if you listen closely he throws in the weirdest, funniest jokes at times.. which kept it interesting. He assigns a lot of reading but you don't have to do all of it to keep up. Overall a great class, pretty easy and really good if you wanna fulfill some requirements!

Professor Barnett is extremely knowledgable about Ancient India. He has memorized every lecture and is passionate about the culture. The content can get a little dull for a non history major but it wasn't too bad. The tests would be horrible if they weren't take home.

Prof. Barnett was probably one of my favorite teachers. He knows the material really well and cares about his students. Wants us to actually learn rather than just try to get a good grade. Reading isn't bad and lectures are very useful but sometimes hard to keep up.

Professor Barnett is really interesting and he makes the history fun to listen to. The readings are dry and I didn't do them, but I imagine they would take about 2-3 hours a week. His tests are take-home and they're pretty easy.

Professor Barnett is one of the driest lecturers I have experienced at UVA. Very difficult to follow his lectures without any form of visual aids and his unhelpful and disorganized "outlines." He incorporated a significant amount of vocab/non-English words that did not add anything to the class and caused most of the students to lose his baffling train of thought. Barnett's constant need to assert his "status," often bringing up his tenure-ship and where he's traveled across the world instilled an egomaniac and elitist mindset, which was beyond annoying.
