I was in Professor Lambert’s “Early Modern Bodies” course and I really enjoyed it. First off, this course is mostly discussion-based which really helped me better understand the material we read during the week for homework. With this being said, this course has a LOT of reading (around 50-100 pages per week), which doesn’t seem that bad until you have 4 other courses to juggle with it. In terms of the professor, Professor Lambert was super nice, very understanding, and accepting of everyone’s viewpoints/interpretations during class discussion. For assignments, there are 3 response papers for the semester (basically answering a prompt made by Professor Lambert from the reading), participation points (very important for your grade!), and a research project with a short presentation and final essay (around 10 pages, also super important!). For a 3000-level history course, I thought that overall Professor Lambert did an excellent job with the execution of this course, especially since this was the University of Virginia’s first time offering it.
