Professor McGrath is one of my favorite professors I have gotten to know over the course of my first year here at UVA. She is fantastic, both at engaging with students and teaching a very important topic which many people do not know too much about. I would recommend having somewhat of a background in Spanish studies or language, but that is not nececssary. The class discussions were quite interesting, albeit 2.5 hours long. However, as long as you at least skimmed the reading and tossed in a point at least once per class, you would be fine. Three papers and a final paper which are graded very fairly, as long as you can get your point across. Great class!
