This class was great and I learned a lot about a culture I knew nothing about. Henry is a great professor and he wants his students to learn and get something out of his class. He encourages students to participate and go to events around the Charlottesville community in order to delve deeper into the topic of Aboriginal Art as well as earn extra credit for attending these events. A lot of people do not go to class because Henry has a review day before each exam where he goes over exaclty what is going to be on the exam. There are weekly quizzes which I found it was very helpful to go to class and take note of everything he says because if you just go back and look at his slideshows, you will not really know what he is talking about. He does give almost every answer to the quizzes in class if you pay attention. Discussion is super easy, all you have to do is show up. Skimming the readings is helpful, but you definately don't have to read the entirety of each of the assigned readings.
I loved this class and I think I took it at the perfect time because it lined up with a major exhibition of Aboriginal bark paintings at the Fralin. Professor Skerritt was an incredible lecturer with clear passion for the subject. I especially appreciated that we were able to talk to so many artists that were either visiting Charlottesville or that Zoomed into class. The grade for this class mainly comes from the mid term, the final, and quizzes (all of which are online) and some short written assignments. Theres also an attendance grade for discussion which I thought was one of the highlights of the class (get Emmy as your TA if you can). Its easy to get an A if you just do the work and listen during lectures/discussions, Professor Skerritt gives his students all of the tools needed to succeed. If you take this class, expect to see some great art
