I took this class to fill a requirement (which most people take this class for) and get an A, which I did! The lectures are kind of boring even though the content is cool. It's not what I thought the class would be about because it focused on art bodies and not global cultures. There are a couple exams, but she gives study guides to fill out; if you memorize that you'll get an easy A. There are some short answer questions, but if you know the study guide, you'll be fine. You have to attend all lectures and discussions because she takes attendance in lecture by passing around a sheet to check off your computing ID (but I know people where only 1 person would attend and they'd check off other people's computing IDs). There are readings, but I would just skim or sometimes not read because we discuss it on discussion. However, you need to know the main points of the readings for some of the exam short answers questions to connect it to art pieces/other content in the class.
Paoletti is a great professor. I had no prior experience working with art and was surprised by how much I enjoyed this course. Giulia is engaging and we studied interesting and relevant topics. The class was graded fairly easy and was based off a midterm, final, debate, and discussion participation. I was super nervous going into the midterm but ended up getting an A+ due to the grading style- the TA's are just looking for attempts at analysis. The TA got changed halfway through the semester but it wasn't a big deal. I'd definitely recommend this class for anyone looking to fulfill a requirement as it was super interesting and easy.
Engaging and interesting class, but honestly a bit drab and a lot of reading. There are a lot of intriguing topics and discussion, but overall it is boring. If you are looking for an easy A with easygoing professors, this is for you! It's enough to fulfill that electives credit, but in terms of learning it's not really worth it. I wish I had taken Studio Art instead to get my art credit, since I'm actually into art. Otherwise, class is chill and Paoletti is very nice and patient!
