LOVED this class! Lisa is the goat - such a fun, awesome person that makes learning about the material so enjoyable and entertaining. Her passion for WGS shows through in the class, and I always looked forward to her lectures. The class discusses many topics such as sex and sexuality, orgasms/kinks, BDSM, gender identity, sex education, and birth control / reproductive justice. It was super interesting to learn about topics that you ordinarily wouldn't get a chance to learn about in a classroom setting, and also was an interesting "advanced sex ed" opportunity that helped students in the class feel more comfortable in their sexuality as a young adult. Dispelled a lot of stupid myths around sexuality too which I really liked. Readings are interesting (but you don't really have to do them) and the papers are easy to write and pretty much graded on completion. Only thing I'd be aware of is that you only get 1 unexcused absence, but other than that it's an easy A. Highly recommend!
Really fun, interesting, and useful course, basically a sex-ed class at a college level. Professor Speidel is super friendly and accommodating. If you aren't used to talking about the material in an open and academic way, it might feel weird at first but stick with it because getting comfortable and having discussions is part of the class. It's hard to hide because although it was a large class we had many small discussions as well as "go arounds" where everyone answers a question. Participation in class was a big part.
Material included a lot of readings, including Speidel's book, videos and documentaries, podcasts, and a lot of guest speakers that came to class and shared their experiences.
Grading is very generous; as long as you complete all the assignments and show up to class you'll get an A. Overall would recommend.

LOVE LOVE LOVE. I have nothing bad to say about this class. Dr Speidel is so cool and makes everyone feel accepted and valid. This class is all about sexuality so I definitely would recommend it for people who are comfortable discussing that. It is a really different kind of class than I am used to but it is literally so fun and I would recommend. The readings are interesting and the assignments are not that bad. There are reflections and then other assignments here and there.
