This class is very informative and applicable to every engineering major. The professor teaches methods of risk analysis in an understandable way. There are many small checkpoint activities throughout the class that help you present a final project on a topic of your choosing. The professor and TAs are very supportive, and offer chances for intermediate feedback throughout the semester.
Lambert is legitimately one of the nicest people I have ever met. This course is not difficult at all, and Lambert is extremely communicative and passionate about his interests. Every lecture offers something new to the class and can never be predicted! The course has no exams. 10% of the grade is simply attending class and asking questions, 40% is a reading set that requires just one reading and then a little writeup due at the end of every week, and 20% is class quizzes, in which he gives the answers to in class, and finally 30% that goes into your year-long final project. The best advice on this is to not wait to get started, it takes a good amount of time and is very stressful if you wait to start it until the day before. Everything is pretty easy and straight forward, just attend class and enjoy everything he says because it all really is interesting!
This class is very manageable and comprises of two weekly quizzes due Wednesday and Friday at 9am, as well as weekly slides on a selected reading (what you learned, questions you have, and integration in your semester long topic). However, Professor Lambert provides "hints" for the weekly quizzes which are basically answer keys. Professor Lambert himself is such a qualified and interesting individual who has co-written almost all of the weekly journal readings assigned. In class he goes over some of the readings, current events, and some risk analysis topics. The biggest deliverable is at the end of the semester, where you have to make a presentation on your semester topic, and extract information from the weekly quizzes and readings. Overall, the coursework is extremely light and Professor Lambert is engaged and just a gem of a professor who really wants to help! In fact he encourages students to call and text with questions about your semester topic and about the class in general.
