I love Lomasky with my whole heart. He looks like Santa Claus and wears suspenders! An actual legend. As far as the course goes, there are a few papers and a final. He gave six possible prompts throughout the semester; they would be sent out normally on a Wednesday and we would have until usually Saturday or the following Wednesday to do the whole thing. We had to write three papers but could write four and drop the lowest. Normally he only has the class write two papers max three but he decided to get rid of pop quizzes (thank god) and add the extra paper. I'm not entirely sure how much each paper counted since the syllabus wasn't updated to reflect this change. I felt like there was a lot of reading in this class; we had to read part or all of different works/collections from five philosophers. You could definitely fake it til you make it to some extent. I didn't do a great job of keeping up with the readings so I would usually do them after the paper prompt went out. The papers had a recommended length of 4-7 pages with no formatting requirement except to cite everything clearly. The final consisted of ten short answer questions (we had like fifteen or sixteen options) that required a one-paragraph response and two essay questions (I think four options) that were about three solid paragraphs where we had to compare three of the philosophers. Overall, I thought the material was interesting and I really enjoyed talking to Lomasky after class. I feel really bad for him not being able to see students in person because I get the vibe that he really misses that. I think some people could find his lectures a little longwinded but I enjoyed it a lot. The discussion section was alright. It didn't add anything to the class for me to watch a bunch of mediocre white boys play devil's advocate.
