Summary: This class meant a lot to me, Professor Cushman is amazing!
This class is more or less American environmental history. That brief description doesn't do the course justice for all the ground we cover and people we read, but you should know in case the environment is not your thing.
Professor Cushman is one of the most impressive professors I have ever had. He "lectures" by standing up in front of the class for the whole 1h15, asking questions to us, bringing people into discussion, recalling greek and latin etymology... it's just really impressive.
This course has a seminar type vibe. I learned just about everyone's name, where they were from, and some type of fact about them.
The class consists of maybe an 1h15-1h30 of reading per class, but I'm a slow reader. You have the option of being more of a speaker or writer for your final grade. The class covers mostly 19th century to early 20th century, but a few readings here and there are older or more recent (bible for example). I can't believe I'm saying this, but there really wasn't a reading that I thought was god awful, and most were pretty damn good.
In all, take this if you either care about environmentalism or want to learn more about it. If you don't, the professor is good enough to where I think it's worth a try.
