This class was extremely difficult for me as I am someone who has never worked with R before. I had no clue what to expect from this class, but I took it in hopes that it would teach very basic R skills. Brad is a good guy and he's also pretty chill, but from the third week on, I was really lost. I do not recommend this class for anyone who hasn't worked with R or coding programs before. Though it is technically an English class, very little of the course is rooted in English discussion. I'm sure some people who had more knowledge of CS enjoyed it and did well, but it just was not for me (or my English major friend who I wouldn't have gotten through without). Definitely take at your own risk!
Brad's hilarious and apparently very helpful during office hours, but his course was much more difficult than I had hoped for. His course description made it seem like he'd be really helping out the English students taking the class who didn't know anything about coding, but the course expectations ended up following wherever the CS kids who were taking the class were. The course goes very fast for anyone who has never taken a coding class before; I started having difficulty by week 2 and I've actually studied some of R before. There's weekly homework that was due at 6 PM every Friday, and he only taught everything you needed to know for the class on Thursday. I have classes and lab till 6 on Thursdays and from 11:30-7:00 on Fridays, which always meant I only had Thursday night to finish the homework. It's a really interesting class, but if you aren't confident in coding, you need a lot of time in your schedule to dedicate to learning the material. I think he expects that anyone who doesn't get it to go to office hours, but it just wasn't possible with what my schedule looked like this semester.
