Chinese and Greek Philosophy was a class I really enjoyed. This is a good class for those looking for a survey of the writings of the most important Chinese and Greek philosophers (Confucius, Mozi, Mencius, Laozi, Xunzhi; Plato and Aristotle). In this class you'll be able to discuss books of great importance for both philosophies like The Analects and the Dao Je Jing, and The Republic and The Nicomachean Ethics. Professor Lomasky style of teaching can seem a little unorthodox, but you'll get used to it pretty fast.
The grading in the class is divided between unannounced quizzes (25%), two short essays (30%), participation (5%) and a cumulative final (40%). As far as I can tell, there is no curve in this class. In order to do well do the readings and make small notes on them on a weekly basis. To prepare for the final create a chart that compares each philosopher. Contrast their thoughts on those topics that will be repeated throught the semester, the role of family, politics and the state, eudaimonia and human nature.
