This class is set up to be an easy A/A+ and not much more. Tidey is a good lecturer, but in a once a week 2 and a half hour 90 person class, nothing sticks. Corruption is an interesting topic but it isn't THAT interesting and I found the content to become repetitive really quickly. Readings felt boring and useless to the point where I gave up on doing them. The class is split up into groups of around 10 people where we do about half the coursework together and the two main grades of the course; all of which is difficult to juggle with a group of 10 people. The course grading consists of weekly quizzes, a whole class presentation with your group, 5 questions on the readings over the course of the semester, and the final project. All of these are incredibly easy and I found myself putting next to no work in this class. If you have one or two friends in the class, you'll find that its an easy way to an A. The only people I know who ended with A-s are ones who regularly forgot to submit quizzes and got docked off points for that. I will say she gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit and you should do at least a couple of them to guarantee an A, as I probably would've gotten an A- had we not done the symposium presentation. I'm honestly disappointed i took this class because the discipline I took this class to fulfill had so many better, more fulfilling options. However, if your priority is an easy A/A+ with next to no effort, this is a fantastic option. Just don't expect to walk away learning anything.

I have mixed thoughts on this class. I think Tidey is super nice, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the subject. Readings are provocative and worthwhile, but the class setup is terrible. It's a 90+ person, 2.5 hour lecture that ends up being an hour of lecture followed by another hour of groupwork that relies on the presumption that everyone has done the reading. In reality, most people haven't, and attendance isn't taken, so the dropoff after the first few weeks is pretty high. I think this class would be super fulfilling in a much smaller setting, and I'd encourage the department to change it around so Tidey can get the engagement she clearly wants. If you can find her in a smaller class, take it. I wouldn't take this one again, though.
