This class is not bad. The lectures are really boring unless he randomly decides to make a joke which are surprisingly very funny but few and far between. He posts the annotated slideshows on a one drive, and he can send recorded lectures if you ask, so you can skip if you want. The grade was comprised of 40% HW, 30% for 2 midterms, and 30% on the final. The first midterm was brutal, but it was curved a lot. The second midterm was take home, which made it easier, but I still find it kind of difficult. The final was also take home, and this was definitely the easiest of the 3 exams. The homework being 40 percent is nice. The homework is textbook problems and it's easy to get help on them if needed. Not a bad class, just boring sometimes. I actually loved the professor for how nice he was and how much he loved the topic but I know some others did not like him. #tCFF23
Took this class in Fall 2023. Overall, Angus made this class a lot easier than I thought it would be. 1 exam in person and two take homes. He's helpful when you seek out help, which I highly recommend. The homework can be a bit tedious but with effort you can ace them. His grade cutoff was a 92 for an A, so pretty generous in that regard. And despite the dry lectures, he tells a couple funny jokes here and there which me and my friends enjoyed. Cool guy, good vibes, but not very engaging class.
i really liked this class. lecture was definitely a bit boring sometimes but the class was pretty easy. study for the midterms and make a good review sheet, and you’ll do fine. angus is really nice and approachable, just reach out to him if you need help or have questions about anything. i know other people in my class often did poorly on exams, but i think that is probably due to the fact that it was a 40 person class and we typically had 8-12 people show up to lecture. just go to lecture, take notes, ask questions, follow along with the examples. you’ll be fine.
