This is a mandatory core class for the Batten MPP. Overall, I had a decent experience in this class. The highlight of the class is the lecture, as Prof. Adams is extremely engaging and uses activities to supplement lecture material. I remember more from the activities than the course reading and lecture slides. The downside of this class is the grading scale. The participation grade is extremely subjective and unclear. She also grades participation very harshly so ensure you actively participate at least once or twice in lecture. I did not miss a single lecture and moderately participated, expecting to get a high B on participation but I ended up with a 75% in this category. I received a 100 on the midterm (30%), a 94 on the final (25%), and a 100 on the short papers (25%), but still ended up with an A- in the class (93.66) because of participation. Super disappointing and slightly detracted from my experience. Regarding the course material, it is decent overall. There is overlap with other Batten leadership classes but this class focuses on ethics and morals. Overall, I had a decent experience but was disappointed with the grading structure with little feedback.
