Intro to Translation- daily HW assignments that usually weren't posted until the class before- usually short assignments from the book
Book is necessary- can't do most of the class without it- It's also a good resource for the final project
There were 5 tests- but she dropped the lowest test grade.
2 Individual translations of short articles one french to English, the other English to French
Final group project- translate a poem or translate a website- this is a lot of work but Hall made it easy to complete on time with several smaller due dates for portions of the Project. I recommend making a single document for the final project and keeping EVERYTHING. The main thing about translation is the process and she wants you to describe EVERYTHING YOU EVER DID FOR THE PROJECT EVER. It's not hard if you keep good records.
Also she wanted us to use a bunch of random websites/ applications (hypothesis for annotations) - they're odd but not hard to use.
All in all, this was a fun class and I learned a lot about the language. This class definitely makes you aware of all the different meanings words have. I suggest Word Reference to get the best translations of words.

I really enjoyed this class! Prof Hall is so friendly and cares a lot about her students. She is not a harsh grader and the work is very manageable. Our grade was composed of a lot of different factors (quizzes, 3 translations, discussion posts, participation, 1 presentation) but nothing was overly difficult and she made each class engaging and had a very clear presentation of the material. There's one group project for the final which is a little annoying to put together and execute, but I honestly enjoyed it. I sometimes felt the material/topics we discussed were repetitive because there is only so much to talk about with regards to translation, but I felt like I learned a lot and have a great appreciation for the subject!
