Professor Kuhn is really sweet, and she's very eloquent and knowledgeable about the topic of the class. She very easy to work with, and you have three excused absences and one guaranteed seventy-two hour extension on a paper. Weekly, all we had to do was two readings and write a short paragraph response about it. On weeks where we had papers due, there was no response to write, and she's always helpful if you want help with the papers. Our final exam was a three to four minute recorded presentation on the plastic in an everyday object. In general, she grades fairly and I had a really easy time the entire class. The readings are mostly about the environment and related social issues, so if you're not interested in that, the class might be a bit boring. Also, the professor rarely lectures and the class is entirely made up of discussion, so part of your grade is based on if you make contributions to the class. However, I'd talk once or twice each class and I still ended with an A.

Professor Kuhn is amazing! We read four novels, watched two movies, and had a few short readings. There were three essays, ranging from 3-6 pages, and a final project which was a recorded 3-4 minute presentation on the life cycle of a plastic object. She went on maternity leave at the end of the semester, so I am not sure if this is normally the final project for the class. We also had seven short reading responses due throughout the semester. Professor Kuhn was great at leading discussion everyday and making sure everyone felt comfortable speaking. I found the discussions productive and taking notes helped a lot with writing the essays. Everyone gets one 72 hour extension that they can take on any of the assignments throughout the semester as well as three automatically excused absences. She is very understanding and cares a lot about her students. I would highly recommend this class! #tCFfall22
I loved this class! Mary Kuhn is so sweet and we have some really interesting discussions. I took this course as a first year and definitely was not overwhelmed by the workload. We only wrote 3 essays and though they are challenging she is super lenient with deadlines and I used an extension for a paper I was struggling with. Also, you get to keep a climate journal where you basically sit in a spot around Grounds and write down details about the environment around you. This was super appealing to me as someone who loves being outside. If you like talking about the environment, sustainability, current issues, and also reading super interesting books I recommend this course.
Incredibly kind and understanding professor! She is so sweet and patient, and she is very open and welcome to all kinds of answers. I love her as a person, but she seems a bit hard when giving out A's on essays. I have had peers who have received A's, so I suppose if you do well enough, you'll be okay! I really love her as a professor, and classes are pretty chill and engaging as well. This class was nice, albeit the readings get heavy at times, but the books are good reads as well :)
