Alison Hurley is one of the best English professors to have if you are someone who is considering being an English major. She gives great feedback on essays and assigns a substantial amount of reading. If you want a taste of what your major-related classes will be down the road, this is the class to take. That said, if you're just trying to fulfill the second writing requirement, this is not the class for you. Prof. Hurley is super approachable and very helpful in giving feedback and advice, but the workload is pretty heavy for a 2000 level English class and the she's a pretty harsh grader. Discussions are more engaging and interesting than most of the other English classes at this level, but you will work hard. The nice thing is that there is no explicit attendance requirement, instead she has a 15 discussion post requirement for the semester, but you have to come to class on the days you post in order for them to count. All in all, I would absolutely recommend this class for anyone who genuinely wants to improve their writing skills or be challenged in English.
