Review Summary Updated April 05, 2026

Take this if you need a straightforward CS elective that balances a manageable workload with practical, industry-relevant skills. The material is frequently described as dry, but the concepts click quickly once you attend class, review the provided slides, and apply them during in-class practice. The professor is widely praised for genuine enthusiasm and fair grading, though a strict late policy and occasional lectures running over require you to stay disciplined. Weekly assignments are the heaviest part of the workload, making it highly advisable to secure a partner early to split the time and keep the material engaging. Ultimately, it is a low-stress, highly supportive option for filling a degree requirement as long as you show up consistently, study the practice exercises, and never miss a deadline.

The course is boring but some topics are pretty interesting and applicable to what you might do in industry. I wouldn't recommend taking this course unless you have to. You have weekly assignments to do with a partner, so it is not much work. You have weekly quizzes which are fairly straightforward. The exams are also not too bad.
