Class is split between 3 units. The professor you enroll with teaches 2 of those units and then you switch to another professor. Final grade is the avg. between your 3 unit grades. I only had Matt for the digital skills unit, and he was okay. He provides readings that are pretty short but you definitely don't have to read them (I def didn't). The digital unit with him was based on one project a week and then everyone's work is shared in class for discussion/critique on the due date. Pro: Matt's really chill with grading in that he lets you grade yourself. At the end of his unit, he sends out a form and you give yourself a grade w/ a detailed explanation as to why you earned it. Cons: He wasn't very helpful with feedback and it was sometimes hard to catch up when he showed how us how to use the applications because he goes through them pretty fast.
The class was fairly easy and was divided into three parts: drawing, digital skills, and conceptual foundations. Attendance is not taken, make sure you do all your work and you will be fine. I would say it is an easy A. Only negative was we did not get a breakdown of our grades. Prof Shelton is super nice and approachable.
I had a lot of fun in this class. I took it as a prereq for other department courses, but I enjoyed it and it was fairly easy. Assignments weren't too difficult and time consuming, even if you have had no prior study of drawing and digital skills. This course was graded based on your abilities to care and spend time thinking, looking at, and creating art. Turn in assignments on time and/or ask for extensions, but diligently complete the assignments. When asked to write, use colorful language and engage a little and you will do exceptionally well in this course.
