I really enjoyed this class! Tessa Farmer is such an intelligent professor, and her teaching truly changed how I think about sustainability. It is a great course if you want to fulfill the Cultures & Societies of the World requirement or if you just want to consider some new ideas. As for the grade, I got an A and I would say if you care about the course and try your best you will get a good grade.
Breakdown of the Course:
It is a participation heavy course. She does mini lectures where she asks us questions and guides us into thinking about the readings in-depth. It is very overwhelming at first, but it really starts to make sense as the semester goes on. I recommend participating as often as you can because it really helps make the class more engaging.
Grade/Work Breakdown:
- Grades: Participation 10%, Short Paper 20%, Response Journal (2 weekly journal posts) 20%, annotated bibliography and abstract 10%, Final Paper 40%
- This course does require a good amount of reading (~20+ pages before each class) and you do have to complete a reading response discussion post twice a week. She provides guiding questions that make these not too difficult to complete.
Overall, I highly recommend this course!
