MATH 4330

Regardless of the painstaking process, it is a course preparing you as a mathematician. But it is absolutely the hardest class I have ever taken at UVA. Hayes is a nice guy and he is incredibly smart, but he should improve his teaching. He is too fast in proofs and most of the class barely follow him. The first in-class midterm is like a disaster, half of the class failing if without the curve. Takehome final seems to save your life, but a lot of material is based on lectures in the last two weeks, in which he rushes a lot and does not assign any homework about it. One good thing is that he curves generously and has "get some midterm points back" policy to save your life. Anyway, get ready to spend much time on it and you will feel proud of yourself if you survive.
