This was my favorite class of the semester! Professor Nelson is a great guy, very approachable and friendly. He was able to coordinate virtual tours of Monticello and a pavilion over Zoom so the class could see first hand Jefferson's work. Class was both virtual and in-person, depending on whether you were comfortable showing up to the classroom or preferred to stay home and watch over Zoom. Despite this, Professor Nelson encouraged participation from everyone and stopped to ask questions directed at those in the room or online. The midterm and final exam included vocab, timelines, lecture material, reading material, and an essay. The final exam had an additional essay that encompassed the entire class worth of material. I recommend taking the time to reread all the readings the day before the exam, so they're fresh in your memory. Overall, I would highly recommend this class to anyone interested in UVA's history, both good and bad.
