This course has a lot of potential and because I took it in its first semester take my review with a grain of salt. You learn a lot of R, which is obviously good. The grading scale is honestly whack, a 95+ is an A (to be fair, technically standard for UVA) , a >93 is an A-, >90 is a B+, >85 is a B and so on. I’m not sure why, but that’s what it is. For the love of everything, please take STAT 3220 before this class. I think it’s a prerequisite now but it didn’t used to be and my group member who had only taken STAT 2120 was completely lost on some of the more stat heavy units. I’m shocked they didn’t make it a prereq to begin with. Just in general, Maria is very nice and her heart is in the right place but many people did not feel as though she was an effective professor. She will get better with time though, I think that was her first time teaching a 4000 level stat course as she usually teaches 2020.
