Professor Coan was unable to teach this course this semester due to a heart attack early in the semester, so a recent Ph.D. graduated stepped in to teach. She was extremely boring and made me dread going to class due to her monotonous voice and inability to move away from her computer screen. Nadar, one of the other assistants, was much better and I wish he could have taught more lectures; I found myself learning more in class when he was lecturing. This class definitely requires you to read the textbook as some questions on the test are straight from the book. The chapters are quite long, so if you cannot stay on top of reading, like myself, that is something to be mindful of. Your class grade is made up of 2 tests and a final. You take 3 regular tests, but you get to drop your lowest grade of the three. In my opinion, to get a decent grade in this class, you have to stay on top of the reading and study in advance. It is doable, but my attitude towards the course declined once I found out Professor Coan was not teaching it.
Very unfortunately, Professor Coan had a heart attack this semester and is currently recovering and taking the semester off. Because of this, two TAs have lectured this semester. Regardless, I think they have done a good job lecturing and stepping up to the plate.
As for the course itself, it is interesting and not too much work. Personally, I am not very interested in psychology or most things science-related. I am much more of a math, CS, econ guy, so my piece of advice is to only take this course if you know you're interested in psychology. I am not, so I do regret taking it but I will say that it is a fair class and I could see the appeal of it if you are interested in psych. The exams themselves are multiple choice and yu get to drop the lowest. As for difficulty, they are definitely somewhat challenging but if you prepare in advance, you will do well. You do not have to have a great grasp on biology/physiology/anatomy but do need to have a basic understanding. Overall, I would recommend taking the course if you are interested in psychology but stay clear if you are not.
