Professor Koganzon is hands down the most intelligent professor at UVA. She's a genius, I swear she knows everything. Her class is also really fun! She's a natural at leading class discussions. As for the readings, I found them kind of hard to keep up with because we had class three times per week. But all in all, the readings are fairly short, the two required essays are only 6 pages long, and the midterm and final aren't bad. She's a very fair grader. Take this class with her!
Koganzon is great. One of the best professors I've had at UVA at facilitating discussions, and this was a great chance to have a small class in the major below the 4000 level. Readings were generally not terrible by the standard of a normal class, and Koganzon does a good job putting material into context and making things understandable. Two short papers, a midterm, and a final. She grades fairly, going by office hours ahead of papers being due is a must though.
This class was okay. I appreciate that Prof. Koganzon assigns *relatively* light reading, which instead of being entire books or works instead highlights the parts that she really finds important and worth discussing. She is also great at giving students the space to discuss and ask questions, and definitely wants us to understand concepts. She is a great instructor in that way. However, I do think that her grading is unnecessarily harsh, almost to the point where an A- is what she sees as an "A." All in all, her grading can be pretty frustrating and definitely not an easy A, but a fairly easy A- !! Just definitely pay attention during class and take lots of notes on everything she says, honestly.
