Interesting class. Basically, the course is a mix of some of the economic development aspects of Moomaw's neighborhoods class with environmental planning concepts. There's a lot of reading for the class, but the focus is more on the big ideas in the pieces than really minute stuff. Decent number of short writing pieces, which are not graded too harshly. There is a final paper which is more lengthy, and it's helpful to go to Moomaw's office hours to get guidance on that assignment. As a planning student who is familiar with Moomaw, I really enjoyed the class. However, the class had a lot of global studies students who were more negative. It seems like students from the college of arts and sciences have a more mixed experience in planning classes, so if that applies to you just be aware.
