TAKE THIS COURSE WITH KEITH!!! He is the best professor ever. He is so fun, easy to talk to, and he brings donuts a good amount. He also will send emails throughout the semester of career and research opportunities, now I never took him up on the offer, but I would have if I needed a job. Now for the lab portion of this class. It is terrible. The labs are so tedious, and are graded so harshly. Do not start them on Thursday or Friday. Start early in the week because they always take longer than expected. #tCFspring2022
Keith is the best there is. Super fun and engaging and really cares. Everyone loves Keith. He brought us bagels on the first day and doughnuts like 4 or 5 times (granted we were his 8 am section but he still brought for his 5 pm section). Super chill class. All project based for the most part. The class feels a little scattered but its okay and pretty fun. Remember that your instructor for this class is also your first year advisor so I recommend Keith for that reason too. Even if you have to wake up for an 8 am section, he is worth it, I promise. Plus he never took attendance but if you don't go, your group probably won't like you. #tCFfall2021
Prof. Williams is by far one of the most understanding and caring instructors you will have at UVA. He makes all his in class activities so fun you wouldn't even realize you're doing schoolwork. He also has an unparalleled connection with his students and makes class very casual and enjoyable. This class will be no worry to you. If anything, you'll look forward to it. (The lab portion, under a separate instructor, is a different story).
Fantastic instructor, willing to accommodate you if need be and very understanding. He just wants to see you succeed. Class was fun as well. Beware the lab part, which is technically included in the class (its not a separate class). The first few weeks are just working in excel and are not bad at all. However, after that it is matlab. It gets super tedious and more often than not it took 4-5 hours just to complete the matlab work for a given week. Don't save it for a Friday night. #tCF2020
I have practically zero complaints about professor Williams. He's a fantastic guy, he's funny, he teaches well, and responds to emails very quickly. He's also willing to help you with whatever you need, whether it's related to his class or not. The lecture portion of the class is very easy, with a few projects here and there that require you to put some work in but will not significantly take away time from other classes. The lab portion of the course, though, takes a lot more work. There are lessons and assignments in either Excel or MATLAB you have to work through each week that's due Friday at midnight, and doing well will take several hours of your week. But as long as you start on Monday or Tuesday and not Thursday or Friday, you'll be fine. ENGR 1624 is a required course for Engineers, but I highly recommend taking it with Williams if you can.
TAKE ENGR 1624 WITH KEITH!!! His class is so chill and he wants to give A's. Also, Keith will be your first advisor at the university and he truly wants to help his students pick the right courses and major. There were like 6 assignments throughout the semester and as long as you meet the requirements and turn in the assignment, he will give you a 100. The class is a lot of group work so make sure you sit with people you like. He does make you randomly pick groups for the final project of a cigar box violin. Even though I'm not musically talented at all, it was so cool to make and I was so proud of my group in the end.
Although this class is mandatory for E-School students and is packaged with Reimers' online class, the class itself really is kind of a chilled-out class. Keith is a genuinely good guy and really wants to connect with his students and direct them on the right path. This class, like STS (which is also mandatory), has a lot of guest speakers and your grade is dependent on projects, rather than exams. Up until the end of the semester you will be introduced to a lot of random topics, but I guess those are set in place to help students pick their major. For example, the classes involving NAO robots may persuade some to go the ECE or CS route. Classes that involve BCI headsets may persuade some to go into BME. Honestly, there isn't much else to this class. I recommend taking it along with STS to get the mandatory classes out of the way so you can focus on classes that you want to take 2nd semester (assuming you have the right AP credits)
