I LOVE THIS CLASS. I took this course with Tish and Helen (I believe Helen is taking it over going forward), and they are both such amazing and kind souls. Tish is like your wise mother, and Helen is like your cool big sister. They never really made the course about grades, the focus was really on incorporating mindfulness into your life sustainably and then be able to teach it to others as well. There are a couple of weekly assignments, but its all pretty much reflection based so its not difficult at all. Overall, I found it so refreshing that I could focus on just learning mindfulness and not have to worry about grades. The MOST therapeutic class I've taken at UVA.
This course was a unique one. The primary format of the course was coming in and doing different mindful practices all through the 2.5 hours of class. There were also weekly journals, case studies/quote book journal entries that correlated with assigned readings. For readings, you definitely can get away with not reading them in full and still getting these assignments done. Helen was a very kind professor. I would recommend this course to any who are interested in having a unique course, that is also one very easy to get good grades in.
