I don't usually write reviews for classes but I want to tell as many people as possible to TAKE THIS CLASS. I love John D'earth, but when I took Jazz Improv I could not "get into" jazz. I was a self-taught musician and felt like the barrier to entry was too high for my skill level. Bluegrass is, in comparison, so easy to jump into. And the more you play, the more complexity you can add. It got to the point to where my Bluegrass playing is intersecting with jazz concepts and we've come full circle. I've fallen in love with the genre because of the guidance of Professor Will and it has really motivated me to get as good as possible. Mix that in with students who are so willing to be there, learn and have fun, and able to pick what songs we'd like to play in the first place, and it makes for the ideal class experience. Yes, you have to sing from time to time and I know some people have issues with that, but Will spends a respectable amount of time helping people quite literally find their voice. And everyone improves in some way/becomes much more comfortable singing.
