I LOVED this class. This was my first Latin American Studies class and I was pleasantly surprised. The class was formatted where the first hour was a guest lecture, then a 10-15 minute break, and then the rest of the class was a discussion about the lecture and readings. Since the class only met once a week, we were expected to do the readings for the guest lecture before class so we could participate with the lecturer and the discussion. During the semester, you were required to write two reading reflections which would be due before the corresponding lecture. You also had to facilitate one discussion which means that you would do the readings, prepare some questions for the class, then lead a discussion about the readings and lecture with your questions. Other than that, there was an interview assignment where you had to interview a faculty that Dr. Nemer had approved and write a 2-3 page paper about it. Lastly, there was a final paper where you had to find an advertisement for your future career, including your current and future resume to get that job, and then write an action plan of how you would accomplish everything on your future resume and get the job. There was also an attendance and participation grade, but if you did have to miss class you could write another reflection to make it up. I enjoyed the class, most of the assignments are based on completion since you are just writing reflections, and the lectures and discussions were always very interesting. #tCFS24
