This is a great course to satisfy a fine arts requirement. The only work is watching 1 movie and reading 1 article per week and writing 200 word responses about both. In addition to that weekly work there are two 2-3 page essays. Very very chill class. She tells the class that she wants to give everyone an A and to make that easy on her by completing all your work and coming to class. She does not give release or tell you your grades on assignments until the last month of the semester, but you can expect an A on almost everything so long as you completed it and did what you were supposed to do- so not really a big deal you don't know your specific grade.
Samhita Sunya is a really understanding, kind, and knowledgeable professor. She is always trying to engage people in her class, and cares about everyone's well-being. I disagree with the below review - Samhita sent us to-dos twice a week so we always knew what was due and what we would be doing in the next class. I learned a lot, got to watch some cool films I wouldn't otherwise, and got to explore some really interesting topics through the lens of film. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in film or history. Especially if majority of your education has centered around the West.
There wasn't that much work for this class, one article and one film a week to watch and in class we discussed either the film or article either as a class or in breakout rooms. I did not like this class, but if you are interested in the subject, I would recommend you take this class. She never responded to any of my five emails throughout the semester and never told us our homework until after it was due, so it is up to you to figure things out in the class. She never uploaded grades and I still do not know my grade in this class. But, she is a good person, just maybe not the best professor. She was friendly and nice, but I did not like this class.
