If you take Global Cinema with Professor Goin, it will actually be Mexican Cinema - starting with the history of film in Mexico and going to present-day Mexican filmmakers. I took this class during Fall 2020, and she actually made it an asynchronous class (was listed as synchronous originally). Lectures were uploaded every T/TH, and we had the liberty to watch them whenever - each lecture was around an hour, sometimes less. The grading is based off 6 film screening journals (from 13), 10 online discussion posts after each lecture (from 14), and two essay-based exams. I'll start with the film screenings - they are graded on a scale of 0-5, and it is easy to get points docked if you are relying too much on readings or not citing the readings enough. The online discussion posts are completion, but you have to remember to post your own and respond to peers. The exams are pretty strenuous - you have to answer 4 essay questions (out of 6) in three hours. The first exam was a lot harder than the second one. However, the entire course is very interesting and you learn a lot about Mexican Cinema and how it ties in with American cinema. It's a great way to learn about movies even if you don't know much about films. It does require a fair amount of work, but the material is actually fun to learn! #tCF2020
