The topic for this class was Fandom Ethnography. You write about the fans of a media object (television show, movie, celebrity, music artist, etc.) of your choosing, so pick something you are really interested in or have a personal connection to. You write three papers about it over the course the semester, graded on completion, and then combine them into one for your final project. Dr. Fowler is very knowledgeable about fan studies and made the workload and expectations for this class fairly clear. I think I will be a better academic writer for the remainder of my time at UVA because of this class. #tCFspring2022
This course focused on Ethnography. Everyone picked a fan group to look at and dissect. The class is really good to explore topics of your interest, but has little to no guidance from the professor. Still an easy A for a First Year writing requirement, but you need to pick a topic you actually care about. Everything until the final paper is a completion grade - aim to structure yourself through the semester as this is a whole semester project. 3 essays evenly spread out that combine at the end into 1 2 page paper on your thesis. All in all enjoyable as long as you care - for me it was definitely worth taking. #tCFspring2022
