not a lot of work and not difficult to get decent grades in if you're an ok writer since grades come mostly from a text-based final project and discussion posts. the material isn't uninteresting and dr. kwok clearly knows what she's talking about but is somewhat condescending (ex. persistently told us to "turn your chairs so your bodies are facing me", told students who were talking about course material during small-group discussion time to "stop talking and start paying attention; this isn't high school", once took a student's phone and computer because she got a notification on the computer) and very clearly intends for students to agree with her personal political opinions. also she's awful at answering her email. only took this class because it was the last one that was open that didn't conflict with my work schedule. could've been worse but don't recommend; this was def the worst engagement i took
Wow, this professor is on something. Probably a major power trip because what was this class? The topic is very important, especially considering the history of our university, but it is done horribly by Dr. Kwok. Her in-class demeanor is cold and she can snap at you at any time if you're caught on an electronic device. I desperately wanted to escape this class because of its early time and lack of clarity around the expectations. Our first assignment was submitting materials to use as class readings, so be careful what you use. Most classes are spent listening to her yap and respond to our takeaways from the readings. They are long and she expects a meaty paragraph on the discussion board. The final project this semester was to reinvent and screen write two scenes from the Pocahontas movie. I would rather pluck hairs off of my arm than take this class again.
