I actually took Dr. Hilker's Sci-Fi Ethics Engagement fall 2023, which was his first time teaching the course. There was a decent amount of reading, usually one or two short fictional stories for every class. You do have to read the stories because the class is entirely discussion and participation based. You will receive a group of 5-6 students to have small group discussions with during class. You have to meet up with your group 3 times outside of class, but we were able to get everything done in about 30 minutes over FaceTime. You will also have to meet with Dr. Hilker outside of class with another student to discuss some ethical topics from the course. The meeting is really chill, just a requirement to get through the class. We had a mandatory meeting one night at the observatory where we saw the telescope and listened to a sci-fi radio show. Dr. Hilker brought pizza as well. It is a long walk up to the observatory and it gets cold at night, but it was a neat experience. I probably would not have gone to the observatory during my undergrad if it wasn't for this class.
