Taken in Fall 2024. Great class! Caleb is so engaging and really makes you think about the philosophy behind play and your personal experiences. He's also my advisor and is super nice and accommodating to work with. If you're looking for an easy engagement that's fun and easy, this is THE one. Occasional reading assignments in and out of class and participation required.
EGMT 1540: The Way We Play was a really good Engagements class. The teacher was clearly into the topics, especially when talking about what play means and its ethics. The class had cool activities and assignments, and there wasn't anything boring. I'd take it again if I could. The class is organized well, and they tell you what to expect on the first day, which is easy to follow. The workload was fine; I only had a few short writings to do. If you go for this class, you can aim for an A without too much stress.
In summary, EGMT 1540 was a solid Engagements course with an enthusiastic teacher and interesting activities. It's easy to understand, and if you stick to the plan laid out on day one, you can handle the workload without a problem. Definitely a good choice if you want an engaging class without too much complexity. #tCFF23
"The way we play" was one of my favorite engagements as it was actually engaging. The first day of class we played with arts and crafts, another day we played the game of life, and the final project was to play a game of your choosing with your table mates and write a short paper about it. We also watched many videos and Prof. Hendrickson would bring in cookies and snacks which always made class enjoyable. He was a very easy grader and class was very fun. Most people that I have talked to haven't enjoyed their EGMTs but said that they actually enjoyed this one and that it was one of their favorite EGMTs so definitely take this class! #tCFS24
