Very straightforward engagements course with a very minimal workload. The lectures could get a little dry at times, but the assignments were very easy with 1 discussion post a week and a couple papers that are extremely short and easy to write. Prof Linton also offers to take students out to lunch as a part of the EE requirement if you want to chat with her for a little bit. Great professor, but I do wish we could've gotten to go more into depth (but that's just because I actually enjoy discussing fashion). I actually took this fall '24 but the option is not there. #tCFF24
EGMT 1530: Who Dressed You? was an okay Engagements class. The instructor, a friendly person with a keen interest in clothing, mostly covered the history of clothing during class. Exploring how clothing trends evolved in different cultures was interesting, but it got a bit dull at times. There were a couple of guest speakers, which added a bit of freshness. The workload was minimal. I don't remember many specific assignments, but there were some small readings and writings. We also had to watch a movie and write a couple of pages about it, but overall, the class was pretty laid-back.
While the subject didn't particularly captivate me, I'd recommend the course to those interested in understanding the development of different cultures through clothing. It's a relaxed class with minimal workload, suitable for anyone curious about the subject. #tCFF23
I loved professor Linton! You can tell that she genuinely wants to connect with her students and she is very fun to talk to. Her class is pretty light and you don't really need to do the readings or watch the movies to get the gist. She offers a free lunch or dinner on her as part of the EE checklist which I highly recommend doing. You get to eat anywhere you choose on the corner, and a good conversation. I would take another class of hers in a heartbeat. #tCFS24
I actually took this class fall 2023. It was a pretty chill course with a few readings and documentaries to watch as homework. We did have to write a couple papers but they did not take long at all. There were a lot of class discussions about appearances and assumptions based on what you wear. We also talked about the fashion industry and how detrimental fast fashion is on the environment and its laborers. The professor also brought in a lot of guest speakers to talk about niche topics such as Australian or Native American fashion. The lectures can be boring but the class is really easy.
This is such a fun engagement to be part of. The professor is super engaged in the class and laid back. She is definitely one of the sweetest people I have encountered. To continue, I learned a lot about the fashion industry, body image, fast fashion, beauty in different cultures and more. The work load is super manageable. All you need to do is write one reflection a week that is about 200 words (I think word count was never discussed, it was really just a short reflection on a given question). We also had to watch 2 movies and do a group project at the end of the semester. Group discussions are encouraged, sometimes she gave lectures but they were entertaining and also invited three guest speakers to talk about their expertise. It's the perfect engagement to take if you are looking for something interesting that won't take you too much time.
