This class was super easy, i think the worst thing about it was the readings which were so confusing and long. He doesn't expect you to understand the readings. This class was mostly discussion based, he spoke about the reading in the beginning of the class and asked for some input from the class before writing some questions that we could discuss. Majority of the class is just spent talking and toward the end he goes around each group and strike up a conversation and ask what we spoke on and what we thought about it. The homework is writing i think a page or a half page on our opinions on the reading. They aren't graded harshly at all, i think it's based-on completion. There's i think two essays and those are basically graded on effort. The was very logic based, with questions that didn't seem to have answers but were just there to get you talking. Sometimes class was boring but some discussions were interesting. Koberda is super nice, calm and very accomplished.
I love Thomas Koberda. This man is so kind and knowledgeable. Grades were based on reading responses for completion and a couple bigger essays on open ended prompts if I remember correctly, which were pretty much based on completion as well, as long as you show you put in thought into your responses. To be honest, the readings were so confusing so I just read the first couple pages to get a feel for the topic and wrote based on that. Koberda does a lecture in the beginning of each class reviewing the readings, and leaves it to group discussion, which was really nice because you'll grow close with your group through out the quarter. This was probably one of my favorite egmts - so easy and Koberda was wonderful.
This class based on logic and math. There was a lot of reading, but you could get away with skimming it and still participating in class discussions. Koberda was always open to new ideas and appreciates debates. It was a fun class and an easy A, but if you do not enjoy logic or math, I would choose a different one.
