*I took this class in Fall 2023, but that wasn't an option so I'm copying my review for the spring semester*
For a two credit class, this class is demanding but self-rewarding with how interesting the information is. If you ever wanted to understand the phenomena of our universe interlaced with the philosophical and religious implications, such as black holes, ET life, the Big Bang, dimensionality, and the laws of nature, then this class is perfect. This class truly dives into where science hits its limits with these subjects, and dwells into the possibilities. Kelsey is a great instructor and our lectures were extremely engaging. At times the lectures repeated information from our readings nearly verbatim, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as there are difficult concepts to materialize. Now, this class does demand a good amount of time outside of class. Each week, you are expected to do readings outside of class which took me 2-4 hours, if I took notes. Then, there is an open note reading quiz before class which isn't too stressful if you search through the text. Now, don't be surprised if you get a question or two wrong each quiz as some of the questions have syntactical intricacies that seem like they are trying to trick you, but there are plenty of extra credit opportunities to get points back, such as watching and writing ~400 words on Interstellar. Class participation is graded, but if you find this material interesting, it isn't all that bad. Kelsey makes it a welcoming environment to ask questions and engage with comments, so as someone who almost never asks questions in class, I loved participating during our class time. In short, this class is intensive but rewarding. If you're looking for an easy-A for your 1520 engagement, this class is NOT it. But if you love the topics that will be covered an want learn where our knowledge about the universe stops, I couldn't recommend this class more.
