Bo and Laura are fine as professors, but neither are spectacular. My main issue with this class is that it was painfully boring. It was my first engagement so I didn't know what to expect, but for an interesting title like "The Marketplace of Ideas", it was an incredibly dull and repetitive discussion of college finances. You can entirely get away with not doing the readings (they're not even interesting) and don't stress too much over the assignments. Both professors are very willing to help and clarify any questions on the assignments and give guidance if you're stuck, and even though the grading for the assignments is surprisingly nit-picky for an engagement, Bo and Laura are very accessible in telling you how to improve your work. However, the weekly discussion posts were not thought-provoking and just felt like I was regurgitating some line from an article I had read for the sole purpose of the discussion post. The class did have one major redeeming factor, the final group project where you had to make a metric to rank every university in the country. It was an interesting project that was fun to do, but from my experience, that one positive did not outweigh the monotonous lectures and articles.

I really loved this class. Prof. Odom tries to figure out why the college tuition keeps rising at all universities and dives into a lot of the behind-the-scenes information at UVA. As a member of the faculty, it was really refreshing to see full transparency coming from a professor. I really enjoyed this class, and Prof. Odom really wanted us to enjoy it too. Sometimes it can get kind of confusing but the class is discussion based so you are free to ask questions and give your opinion. Totally recommend!
