In Sync was horrible. It was an 8am, and Jiajun let us come at 8:15- that was easily the best part of the class. Jiajun herself is a very sweet person who is brilliant, but she is pretty awkward interpersonally. This class is supposed to be about aesthetics, and her topic was the intersection of art and math, but it was almost entirely extremely complex math topics literally no one understood. You could see students’ eyes glaze over. Every laptop was open and maybe one person contributed per class. The only upside of this class is it has minimal work, definitely the least of all my engagements if you ignore the readings. On principal, I always do class readings, but Jiajun gives you a book title and then tells you to scan a small portion. That didn’t see helpful to me so I didn’t do it, and it was the best decision I made. We had to do a group project at the beginning of the course about a math topic she assigned, but you don’t have to understand it to explain a single slide. The final was an art project with some math connection. That was the only criterion, so it was easy, and Jiajun is so nice she was impressed by all of them. If your course load is extremely difficult, take this class. If not, run away now.
