I hated this class. The description sounded interesting but in reality it ended up being annoyingly vague and oftentimes boring. Going to class was a chore, if you don’t go you have to do a written absence assignment. Class time is discussion based but feels very forced because no one really wants to talk or knows what to say. The professor often asks vague questions expecting us to know how to answer. The work is easy enough, but does require a 700 word final assignment and several 200-300 word assignments. It was completion based. However, participation was also a large part of your grade, which is subjectively decided by the professor. I got all A+‘s on my assignments but my final grade was dropped to an A- for participation. I spoke a few times in class, perhaps I could have engaged more but I often didn’t know what to say about such a boring topic. I think Dobryden needs to do a better job of engaging the class before dropping grades for low participation.
