This course was good in terms of material and not so good in terms of workload. Overall, the classes were very engaging, with lectures, videos, small and large group discussions rotating throughout. Professor Felski is eclectic, engaging, and in general a fun person to talk to and learn from. She presented the information in an enjoyable and relatable way. The downsides of the course began when she handed out a book of readings (I mean an actual custom book). We had at least two readings before every class, and the readings were often quite long. Some weeks I found that a majority of my time doing homework was spent reading for this class, which I found to be slightly excessive considering that it's an engagement. There were three essays throughout the course, and while none of them were particularly challenging, professor Felski seemed to have an aversion to giving a 100, which is a pattern I noticed throughout my work and that of my peers. She would leave glowing comments containing nothing but praise, and then take off points mysteriously with no explanation. At the end of the course we had to do a group project on a taste culture, but it was not difficult or graded harshly (don't expect a 100 though). Overall, I enjoyed the class and did not find it to be difficult, but if the other classes in your schedule are giving you a heavy workload I might stray away from this one.
