Took the class in the fall. He is a pretentious prick, I'm so serious. I loathed having to even step foot into that class every Monday and Wednesday. He assigned 40-60 page readings at times with 2 days notice multiple times, and the content of the course was so mind-numbingly mundane that I kid you not 75-80% of the class literally never did the reading. I didn't either because I couldn't stand the way he talked about the content, and he would answer discussion questions like a mad scientist. And, he wouldn't even post his goddamn syllabus online like every other professor does!!! I guess participation was important, but wouldn't know that because he expected us to keep a 20 page paper syllabus with a single staple undamaged for 8 weeks! He would talk about every reading nonstop like it were the next bible, but it was just a 40 page excerpt from a descartes book, and would genuinely get upset if you asked to go the bathroom or get water. A friend of mine also in the class was sick for around 2 weeks, and so he when he would leave to blow his nose, prof would sometimes literally cease what he was doing and pause class to wait for him passive-aggressively like he was personally offended by you being sick. Yet, you would lose 1.5% of your grade for each absence. Switch out ASAP. Typical Tenure professor that doesn't actually care about students, just how about smart he is, how he can belittle his coworkers, and how cool he is because he knows so much soo many important people!
IF ALL YOU READ OF THIS REVIEW IS THIS LINE: do not take this engagement, it is not worth it there are lot's of other to choose from.
This was not a good engagement and there is genuinely no reason for you to enroll in this course. The professor comes across as nice and laid back but when it comes to grading treats this course like a 4000 level religious studies course...and its an engagement. There is absolutely no reason for you to enroll in this course because there are so many other more interesting courses to pick from in the 1510 engagement catalogue. There is absolutely no reason to make your self do 40 plus pages of reading a week for an Engagement when you can take something that is genuinely an easy A.
Nemec is also not super nice to students, we had student who had to blow his nose or something and went to the bathroom like twice in a class and you would've thought that he did something really bad.
He also seemingly graded off of vibe honestly and not very leniently. I am in a different engagement this quarter that has more assignments, and a comparable but maybe slightly less amount reading but still some reading to do, and I have an A and I enjoy the professor way more.
It is the least worth it thing ever and just do not do it. If you get pre-enrolled in this drop immediately and switch to something else.
